The Lead Member for Corporate Services and Lead Member for Planning and Public Protection submitted a joint report COSC/12/22 which provided the Committee with an overview of the current position with regard to the Council’s response to and recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. In introducing the report the Lead Member for Corporate Services referred to the main points for consideration. With assistance from the Chief Officer Social Care she responded to questions accordingly thereafter. During the debate the following points were noted, in particular:- · Multi-location (hybrid) Council meetings were now taking place. · Good practices were in place and health and safety procedures would be followed in the event of another outbreak. · The Chief Officer Social Care stressed that this was an overview report which focused largely on the recovery element, in line with the current Covid position. Specific areas of concern raised by some Members regarding the impact of recent staff absences due to Covid (for example in primary schools) could be referred for consideration by the relevant Scrutiny Committee. · In line with the implementation of the Modern Ways of Working policy which had been accelerated as a result of the pandemic, there had been an increase in the number of employees working from home. Concern was raised regarding a lack of continuity in some departments and the need to ensure that members of staff working from home could still be contacted. Officers confirmed that this issue would be covered at the next meeting of the Scrutiny Committee as part of the ‘Customer Service Review’ report. · It was noted that public interface was more important in some departments than others. · Crown Buildings had been re-modelled to support hybrid working and any future re-design of Council buildings would also support the new Modern Ways of Working. AGREED - (i) That the Annual Workforce Monitoring Information Report be scheduled as a regular item for discussion at future meetings of the Committee, to include sickness absence and reasons and staff recruitment and retention. (ii) That any Members of the Committee who wish to visit the refurbished offices and Well-being Hub at Crown Buildings contact the Vice-Chair.
