The Lead Member for Environment submitted a report COET/36/25 which provided Members with an update on the continuing work to develop and improve outdoor sports facilities in Wrexham. The Lead Member introduced his report and responded to questions accordingly thereafter. During the debate a number of issues were highlighted, including: · The investment in grass root sports was something that Wrexham could be proud of. · Wrexham Football club had helped to drive Wrexham’s focus on sport. It was noted that colleagues in Education were looking to progress other sports streams. · Confirmation on the work taking place currently with national partners, including work in tennis and other sports. · It was acknowledged that a benefit of the overall football strategy was for clubs to have ownership of their assets across a leasehold agreement which would give them access to grant funding. The Council would be committed to helping them succeed through the provision of support and advice, where necessary. · The work on MUGAs was complimented and Members wished to see this progressed as quickly as possible. · Issues were raised with regard to the geographical spread of these facilities. · The need to ensure that income generated was enough to ensure the long term maintenance of tennis courts. · Acknowledgement that some facilities, including changing rooms, had been severely neglected over the years and would require modernisation and access to grant funding as part of the asset transfer would assist with this. Rhaid i gynghorwyr ddweud pan fydd ganddyn nhw gysylltiad personol â rhywbeth sy'n cael ei drafod, fel swydd, eiddo neu aelod o'r teulu. Mae buddiant sy'n rhagfarnu yn ddigon cryf i'r cynghorydd adael yr ystafell fel arfer a pheidio â chymryd rhan.
