The Mayor referred to the sad, recent passing of Councillor Paul Pemberton’s wife and led Council in a short moment of silence as a mark of respect. The Charity Ball had taken place in October and had been a resounding success and the Mayor thanked all who had attended or supported the evening. Last month the Annual Remembrance Service and the Armistice Day two minutes’ silence had taken place. It was a time when people gathered to pay respects and give thanks to all those who had made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could live in peace and freedom. The Mayor had been honoured to be a part of these important occasions and thanked those who had supported these commemorations. Last month the Council celebrated the opening of the Old Library Creative Hub in the heart of Wrexham. The refurbishment of this prominent City centre building served as a reminder of the past whilst serving future ambitions to attract high quality and creative businesses to Wrexham. Work had begun on the new kop stand at Wrexham AFC and the Mayor had been lucky enough to attend the recent ground-breaking ceremony. She looked forward to seeing the build progressing. The Mayor congratulated all those involved with the Wrexham community and business Awards which was held in November. It had been a very successful evening and highlighted just what Wrexham had to offer. The Mayor had attended the Christmas lights switch-on and Victorian Christmas market earlier this month. She thanked the events team and partners who had put such a lot of work into these popular festive events that brought increased footfall into the City centre every year. Finally, the Mayor thanked her fellow Councillors and all staff for their continued dedication to Wrexham County Borough Council and the wonderful community of Wrexham. She wished all a very merry Christmas and send best wishes for a happy and healthy new year.
