Response by Head of Service: At this stage, the Housing Authority would not be in a position to publish information on ruling in or out individual sites on an ad‑hoc basis whilst the assessment work is still ongoing. The alternative sites put forward as part of the consultation are from private individuals and having the site locations in the public domain would not be appropriate whilst they are being subject to preliminary assessment work. A site-specific ground investigation would not be carried out as part of feasibility/preliminary design especially in this case given the number of sites involved. Only when a preferred site has been identified would this be undertaken to finalise design requirements. At this stage it would be a high-level assessment to identify any potential issues. The sites are generally greenfield with limited potential for contamination and any potential issues could be mitigated as part of the design process. Any subsequent ground investigations form part of the wider due‑process for identifying potential sites, and releasing partial technical information without the accompanying analysis and context would risk misinterpretation and could undermine the integrity of the process. The views of the gypsy and traveller community were captured as part of the consultation process. Once the full assessment has been completed and the evidence base is in a publishable form, and which the Council are content can be shared in the public domain, all relevant information could be made available together through the appropriate formal mechanisms. This ensures that the data is presented accurately, consistently, and in line with the Council’s statutory obligations. In the meantime, updates will be provided when appropriate through agreed internal reporting channels as the work progresses.
