Response by the Cabinet Member: Many thanks for your question regarding your concern about the removal of the BT telephone boxes and the impact this will have on rural communities. As the telephone boxes are owned and operated by BT, there is very little we can do as a Council to stop them removing a specific phone box if evidence shows that it is not used. Although BT signpost residents to the Local Authority, any information we receive is passed onto BT for consideration. I appreciate your concerns about the impact this will have in a digital age but would like to bring to your attention the Shared Rural network project, which is looking to provide a mobile signal in all areas of Wales and Project Gigabit, which is looking to provide a fibre broadband signal for over 80% of Mid Wales. These projects are currently active and will improve coverage for our communities. Whilst I appreciate this is not ideal, I believe that communities will need to pull together in the future as the landscape changes and we can support our communities to look at solutions for these types of problems.
