RESOLVED to commence the statutory process to close Llandinam C.P. School from 31 August 2026, with pupils to attend their new catchment school
Cabinet considered a proposal to commence the statutory process to close Llandinam C.P. School from 31 August 2026 with Powys-based pupils to transfer to their new catchment school. The Cabinet Member for a Learning Powys set out the case for change and explained that an options appraisal had identified the preferred option to close Llandinam C.P. School, with pupils to attend their new catchment school. He advised that the correspondence he and all members of the Cabinet had received had been read and would be considered as part of the consultation. County Councillor Karl Lewis, spoke as the local Member to oppose the recommendation and to call for other options such as federation to be explored. He referred to the high proportion of ALN and SEN pupils and questioned whether alternative schools could cater for their needs. He also questioned if Caersws and Llanidloes CP Schools had capacity. Cabinet was advised that there was capacity and that there would be support in place for ALN and SEN pupils at receiving schools. Officers also advised that federation had been considered but ruled out and that the issue of ownership of the site raised by Councillor Lewis was not relevant to the decision. Cabinet was further advised that the issue of Little Learning Tree would be looked at as part of the consultation. Having considered the report and the responses of officers to the comments of the local member it was RESOLVED to commence the statutory process to close Llandinam C.P. School from 31 August 2026, with pupils to attend their new catchment school
