Response by Head of Service: Thank you for your questions which I’ve repeated for ease of reference. • Does PCC have any plans to address dog fouling in Hay Cemetery and sports fields? Unfortunately, the Councils Public Protection Service no longer has the resources to carry out proactive work in respect of dog fouling. If members of the public do witness dog fouling in either of these areas and failing to pick up, then Environmental Protection Officers will investigate and serve fix penalty notices where appropriate evidence exists. If anyone does witness a potential offence, please encourage them to make a report via the Councils website. • Would it be possible to install dog waste bins in the cemetery to encourage responsible disposal? There are currently no dedicated dog waste bins in cemeteries as it is considered that dog walkers can use the cemetery bins for disposing of faeces. There is currently no budget available to install and manage dedicated dog waste bins. • Are there specific regulations requiring dogs to be on leads in the cemetery, and if not, could this be considered? The Cemetery Regulations state that dogs must be kept on a lead whilst in the cemetery and any dog fouling must be removed by the person in control of the dog. • How can the community and PCC work together to raise awareness and reduce this problem? The Public Protection team would welcome working with communities to raise awareness and reduce this problem. Anyone wishing to discuss ideas are encourages to contact the Public Protection Service.
