Response by the Cabinet Member: The local authority provides a range of holiday activities for children throughout Powys. All of the provision is accessible to children and young people with additional needs. The local authority provides specific, bespoke support to enable children with additional needs and disabilities to access provision where this is required. This Summer Powys have commissioned two external providers to deliver play activities over the Summer period. Both organisations are inclusive and can make arrangements to ensure access which may include 1:1 support provided by specialist workers. Powys is also running the Food and Fun programme again this year and 7 Powys schools are delivering this across the County including Brynllawach special school. All schools provide inclusive provision and if required additional support is arranged by the school to ensure inclusivity. A range of registered holiday clubs run across the County and settings can apply for additional funding, if a child attending requires additional support to access the provision. The Powys Community Additional Needs contract also provides community outreach support to children and young people with additional needs/disability. Children and young people receive differing levels of support and hours per week throughout the year dependent on need. These hours of support can be 1-2-1, groups or homesitting. Weekly groups include wheelchair rugby, explorer and peer support. These hours are increased during school holidays. Last Summer children and young people with additional needs/ disability were offered Forest Schools, circus skills, alpaca meet and greet and numerous trips including the beach and castles. I would encourage and support and increased level of provision of Summer activities for all children including disabled children across Powys as this is so important for development, socialisation and wellbeing.
