Response by the Cabinet Member: Thank you Cllr Peter for your follow-up questions regarding this matter. I trust the response fully answers your questions. It is currently anticipated that the signing works will be completed by the end of September 2026, rather than 31st August. Subject to no higher-priority works arising which may cause further delay, this date is achievable. I trust you will appreciate that critical or safety-related works must always take precedence over planned works. With regard to the delay, no additional costs are expected. The signs are currently held within the Council’s depots, and the installation costs remain unchanged. Unfortunately, the ordering process coincided with the busiest period of the financial year, including year-end closure, and regrettably the error was not identified as promptly as it should have been. To help prevent similar issues in future, officers raising requisitions will monitor orders on the finance system so that goods and services are ordered in a timely manner. I understand this measure is now in place. For completeness, I was not aware of the specific operational factors contributing to the delay before this matter was raised with me. As this was an operational matter, it would not normally have been escalated to portfolio holder level. However, I accept that local members should have been kept informed of the delay and the reasons for it, and the service has been reminded of the importance of communicating such issues in a timely manner.
