The Leader then invited the originator of the Motion, Councillor Tom Tudor, to speak to the Motion. Councillor Tudor stated that the Notice of Motion was in regards to slippery pavements, rather than slopes. He highlighted that he wished for immediate work to be carried out on pavements in Haverfordwest to replace slabs which were of concern to locals. In response, Councillor Rhys Sinnett, the Cabinet Member with responsibility for Residents’ Services and Leisure, thanked Councillor Tudor for his Notice of Motion and the Officers for collating the report. He highlighted the possible options surrounding the maintenance of the pavements, however, the suggested preferred option was to re-seal the surface of the sandstone paving flags in order to avoid water build-up, which had been the cause of slippery pavements. He then suggested that a pilot be undertaken in the next few months to seal paving flags in various streets and review the success in early 2023. The Highway Asset Manager then highlighted that areas of greatest concern were pavements in the shade which did not get the opportunity to dry. He stated that two areas were due to be focussed on during the trial, as they had received the greatest number of reports of concerns and incidents. He then confirmed that performance would be monitored between winter and spring 2023 and if successful, work would be carried out on the remaining areas with the same flagstones throughout Haverfordwest. Councillor Paul Miller Moved the Recommendation; Seconded by Councillor Rhys Sinnett. Councillor Sinnett stated that he would continue to liaise with the local Member in regards to the introduction of the trial. Councillor Tudor sought clarification in regards to how many complaint cases had been raised with the Council in regards to the slippery pavements. In response, the Chief Executive stated that such records had not been brought to his attention, but stated he would get back to Councillor Tudor with such information.
