The Cabinet Member for Communities and Sport introduced the report. The Service Manager – Community and Regeneration and the Library Manager gave an overview of the report. Members discussed and questioned the Officers on the content of the report. • The Committee made comment that the Library Strategy appeared exciting and ambitious, pushing boundaries and keeping pace with changing expectations. The Committee felt the work undertaken should be commended. The Committee also wished to praise members of staff at the libraries, especially for their help and support of the Friends of Tredegar House. • The Committee made comment that while the report focused heavily on digital provision, there remained clear demand for physical books. The Committee felt this suggested the issue was not a lack of demand, but the need to reach people more effectively. • The Committee requested information on the accessibility of library provision across Newport, including how far residents were from their nearest library as an average. • The Committee recommended that a Fairness and Equalities Impact Assessment (FEIA) should be completed and accompany the Library Strategy before it is submitted to Cabinet, to ensure the needs of different groups are properly considered. • The Committee recommended that the Council ensures the library service has sufficient funding to meet its statutory obligations, so that quality standards and accessibility targets can be achieved and maintained.

Rhaid i gynghorwyr ddweud pan fydd ganddyn nhw gysylltiad personol â rhywbeth sy'n cael ei drafod, fel swydd, eiddo neu aelod o'r teulu. Mae buddiant sy'n rhagfarnu yn ddigon cryf i'r cynghorydd adael yr ystafell fel arfer a pheidio â chymryd rhan.
Caiff datganiadau eu darllen o'r cofnodion unwaith y byddan nhw wedi'u cyhoeddi.
Yn rhestru cynghorwyr presennol y cyngor yn unig. Nid yw aelodau cyfetholedig, swyddogion a chyn-gynghorwyr yn cael eu dangos.
