The Head of People, Policy and Transformation introduced the report. The Policy and Partnership Manager and the Senior Policy and Partnership Officer gave an overview of the report, along with representatives from the partner organisations. • The Committee praised the report and wished to thank all partners for their work in helping to make Newport a safer place and welcomed their attendance at the meeting, noting that it was important for both the Committee and the public to see the Partnership working together. The Committee also welcomed the positive partnership work demonstrated and considered that the move towards outcome-based reporting would strengthen future scrutiny and accountability. • The Committee recommended that partners work together to change the public perception of crime and community safety in Newport by doing more to publicise positive action already taken, future planned activity, and clear “you said, we did” messages to help improve public confidence. The Committee would also like to see more promotion of the lived experience of people using the services. • The Committee recommended that partners ensure rural areas of Newport are not overlooked in community safety work, recognising the additional challenges faced in delivering policing and public safety services in semi-rural areas. The Committee recommended that information is shared consistently to reassure residents that all communities are receiving appropriate attention. • The Committee requested that future reports include drug-related offence data, along with information relating to nitrous oxide use where available, to provide additional context on community safety trends and help Members better understand the links between crime statistics, substance misuse, and public perception. • The Committee wished to provide their support to the development of the Women's Charter and endorsed the partnership in its progress with the project.
