Councillor Fouweather asked: The Welsh Government have plans to make the A48 from Tredegar Park through to St Mellons as a designated route for cyclists, bus lanes and just one lane for other motorists. The public were consulted on this, and an overwhelming number rejected these plans. As usual the Welsh lab gov have ignored these objections. Therefore, can you tell me what action the council has taken with regards this ridiculous proposal . Does the council support these changes? The residents of Marshfield, Peterstone, St Brides and Coedkernew will feel the greatest impact from these changes. In your role as cabinet member have you made any comments either in support or against this proposal. Councillor R Howells responded: These works form part of the Burns proposals being progressed in lieu of the provision of an M4 Relief Road. For this intervention, the Welsh Government undertook public consultation on potential options to improve bus and active travel options on the A48 corridor. Transport for Wales, with NCC’s involvement, have progressed work on this element of the Burns proposals to determine opportunities to provide improvements as part of a potential package of measures. At this stage the proposals are still in the design stage.
