Councillor G Thomas led the Committee through the ‘Housing Service Update – Temporary and Supported Accommodation’ report and moved the recommendations detailed in Paragraphs 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 of the report and was seconded by Councillor M Symonds. Councillor CT Jones then advised that as the answer had been given that he would withdraw his amendment and looked forward to this serious matter being referred properly to Elected Members. The Mayor advised of the following Important Information for Domestic Abuse Victims. ‘On Sunday 23 April 2023 at 3.00pm the Government will be sending an emergency teat to all phones and tablets in the UK. The information provided by the Government is that they do not need to know your number or location so all numbers and devices will be sent these alerts. This test will be a Siren like Emergency Warning Message in Welsh and English. The Emergency Test could reveal a secret or secondary phone and place victims at risk. Please ensure any emergency or hidden phones are on airplane mode or switched off. There is further information to the alert at gov.uk/alert. Please make contact with local support services such as Safer Merthyr Tydfil’s Domestic Abuse Team if you need to discuss your concerns about this alert. They can support you to ensure that any secondary phone that you have remains covert and that you are not placed at further risk from this Government Emergency Test.’
The Mayor shared with the Council some awards that had been received over the past month: · The Council was awarded Bild Act Accreditation – the first Local Authority in the UK to achieve this.
