The Harbour Master presented a report on the developments and operations of Conwy Harbour and highlighted key points from the report. Reference was made to the following: · The annual dredging of the wooden access jetty opposite the Liverpool Arms Public House had taken place. Two high pressure pumps were used to agitate the sediment, which proved very successful and speeded up the process. · Repair works to the Beacons Pontoon would commence early April, 2024. The repairs were scheduled to take up to three weeks. Once the repairs were complete the pontoon would be repositioned back on station. · Trinity House had completed an annual inspection of Conwy Harbour’s aids to navigation. The Officer of Trinity House found them to be “in good and efficient order”. Annual servicing of the navigation marks would commence mid-June, 2024, subject to weather conditions. · The Jac y Do was coming up to its 10 year anniversary and as a result, required a 5 year special survey. Discussion also arose regarding the following: · The North Wales Cruising Club extended their thanks to the Harbour Master for the loan of the boat shed over the winter for the refurbishment of the launch. The value of having a boat shed undercover was acknowledged. However, the need for additional security measures, following a recent break in, was highlighted. In response, the Harbour Master advised that discussions were now underway regarding additional security measures e.g. secure fencing and locks, subject to any relevant planning permission. · Some Harbour users had expressed disappointment at the 10% mooring fee increase. In response, the Harbour Master advised that the initial proposed fee increase was far higher, but following further consultation, a 10% increase was accepted, which was more in line with other similar sized harbours in the area. Members were assured, that any surplus was always reinvested back into the harbour e.g. the replacement of concrete pontoons, the installation of extra ladders and electric points on the Quay. · Installing Wi-Fi on the Quay was considered a vital investment and one that should be considered further. As a consequence, Members supported a recommendation to Cabinet that, as a priority, consideration be given to investigating all avenues of funding, to try and improve Wi-Fi and live camera coverage of the harbour/quay.
