An apology for absence was received from Councillor Chris Brockley. In addition, a warm welcome was extended to Ann Jones (Bay of Colwyn Town Councillor), who had recently replaced Town Councillor Rikki Owen on the Committee.

RESOLVED: That the Programming at Theatr Colwyn 2024 attendance and proposed summer films 2024 be noted.
The Theatre Manager provided an update on the attendance at Theatr Colwyn and Cinema for 2024, together with proposed summer films for 2024 and a brief snapshot of forthcoming events. In considering the report, Members made reference to the following: · It was acknowledged that staff had been working hard to adapt to financial budgetary pressures and customers not having as much disposable income to spend on Theatre performances or the Cinema. · Being able to offer reduced rates to local amateur hires, dance schools and cinema showings, as a result of funding from the Bae of Colwyn Town Council, was welcomed and recognised as a benefit to the local community. Discussion also arose regarding catering for young people e.g. live bands, higher education engagement, and the promotion of the Welsh language and culture. In response, the Head of Economy and Culture made reference to the Winter Sounds Programme and Conwy’s Creu Cymru Creating the Spark Cultural Strategy. In terms of the Welsh language, reference was made to promotion of Welsh events, development of Ffilm Cymru audience, demographics, funding and demand. • Promoting the Theatre and facilities ‘use it or lose it’. Members praised the Team for their work to provide a full and varied programme. RESOLVED: That the Programming at Theatr Colwyn 2024 attendance and proposed summer films 2024 be noted.

RESOLVED: That the Theatr Colwyn Community 50p Screening report be noted.
The Theatre Manager provided an update on the 50p community screenings at the Theatre in 2023/2024. Community screenings were an important element of the preventative work carried out by the Economy and Culture Service in relation to well-being. The funding from the Bay of Colwyn Town Council enabled the programme to continue by awarding an additional grant of £5,000 for an additional 9 community screenings, at a reduced ticket price, for 2024/2025. In considering the report, Members made reference to the following: • Many within the local community were facing cost of living difficulties, which often restricted their social interaction and increased the risk of loneliness, therefore, the screenings, at a reduced rate, were encouraged and considered an effective way of providing well-being outcomes. • In addition, discussion arose regarding the promotion of performances and facilities to schools, financial challenges and the economic benefit and boost to the local community of the Oriel Colwyn exhibitions. . RESOLVED: That the Theatr Colwyn Community 50p Screening report be noted.
