The Lead Member for Finance and Performance submitted a report (COEP/68/24) asking Members to approve the Wrexham Long Term Plan, developed by the Wrexham Town Board, and agree that it is submitted to the UK Government, in order to secure the Long-Term Plan for Towns programme in Wrexham, which includes funding of £20m over the next 10 years. The Lead Member presented the report and highlighted the main points contained with it. A discussion ensued and the following points were raised: · Recognition of the commitment and dedication of the Town Board for the progress already made. Members collectively welcomed the funding and highlighted the benefits this would bring for the residents and visitors to Wrexham. · Clarification sought with regards to whether there would be investment in PCSOs to deal with anti-social behaviour issues etc. · Recognition that there was an opportunity for Scrutiny to add value to the work being undertaken before final decisions were taken by Executive Board. · Officers confirmed that consultation would be key, and referred Members to Appendix 1 which highlighted the range of consultation activity that was planned. It was also noted that community engagement already undertaken was through existing community groups which ensured there would be no duplication. · Importance of transport connectivity was highlighted, and clarification was sought with regards to what extent was there engagement from transport companies. · Importance of ensuring that City Centre Ward Members were engaged throughout the process to enable them to provide feedback and updates to residents. · Request that consideration be given to dementia sufferers, and those people with autism and ADHD through ensuring that shops were welcoming and that quiet areas were made available within the City Centre. Officers advised that the plans all aimed to create a better environment for shoppers, young people, and all those people interested in watching sport in Wrexham. Reference was also made to the Integrated Impact Assessment tool which was very useful in supporting these aims. · Concern that there was no reference to the history of Wrexham, such as the coal works and the steel and chemical industries, as well as the military connections. Whilst many tourists visited Wrexham now due to the football club and its owners, it was also recognised that visitors also wanted to witness and experience the other things that Wrexham had to offer.
