The Mayor thanked all those who had attended her Charity Dinner Dance which had been a resounding success. She had attended the final concert of the Rhos Orpheus male voice choir at St Giles Parish Church in October and this had been a very emotional evening. The month of October had also seen the Terry Fox run and activities day come to Bellevue Park. It had been wonderful to see the local people coming out to support this event for. Members of the Caergwrle girls brigade were presented with the girls brigade Queen’s badge in November. The Mayor stated that it had meant a great deal for her to be there as she had spent many years in girl Guides herself and was well aware of all the effort they have put in to gain such a credit. The Mayor noted that November seemed to be a month for recognising high achievers in our community as the Archwood group, based in Chirk, were awarded the King’s award for enterprise in sustainable development. The William Aston Hall had hosted a highlight in the military calendar when the Military Tattoo Cymru was held here in Wrexham. It had been a delight to witness such a spectacular event which came to fruition following funding from Wrexham Council shared prosperity fund. It had been the latest in a successful run of events held in Wrexham. The previous two were "a slice of the British Isles" and "the North Wales military music pageant", held at Coleg Cambria. The most poignant time of the year was the Remembrance Sunday service and Remembrance Day commemoration. Each year, we gather together to pay our respects and give thanks to all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, and continue to serve their country, so that we can continue to live in peace and freedom. To be a part of these incredibly touching occasions, as the Mayor of Wrexham, had been a true honour. The Mayor paid her respect and thanks to the Chief Executive, Ian Bancroft, who would be leaving his post at the end of this month. Ian had joined us in 2018, and served as Chief Executive through some incredibly tough times; during the Covid pandemic he had helped us navigate our way through those dark days, using his experience and leadership skills to keep our services running and our communities safe. This was an incredible achievement, and something we would always be thankful for. Ian had also helped usher in something of a golden era for Wrexham. Under his guidance, Wrexham had achieved City status, been a city of culture finalist, and benefitted from millions of pounds of government investment to help regenerate our city centre. Group Leaders spoke in turn to pay tribute to Ian and wish him well for the future. Finally, as we come to the end of another busy year for Wrexham, The Mayor thanked all employees and Councillors for their continued dedication to Wrexham and its wonderful community. She wished everyone a very Merry Christmas and sent best wishes for a happy and bright new year.
