The Lead Member for Adult Social Care submitted a report (COSC/02/24) to provide members with an update in relation to the service review undertaken for Day and Work Opportunities and the In house respite services which include Tapley (Children’s respite provision) and Park View (Adults respite provision). Wrexham CBC currently provides an internal Day and Work Opportunities (DaWO) service for eligible adults over the age of 18 with a disability, and young people aged 16 and over who are transitioning from children and young people’s services. The service operates from the Cunliffe Centre in central Wrexham. The Chief Officer Social Care thanked the Lead Member for introducing the report and introduced Tracy Jones (Head of Service - Disability Service), Martyn Palfreman and Hugh Irwin (Service Review Consultants) from HICO to the Committee. However, the department are looking to improve further by progressing to a new model. · The new model proposed would bring together the current day service and respite into one service with a separate Work Opportunities Service commissioned from third sector partners. This would be achieved within current budgets. · New provision would be less centre based and more community based with a more modernised Cunliffe centre as a hub. · Confirmation that the lease of the Walled Garden at Erlas had been extended and investment will be made in the project. · Clarification was sought by members on whether the Tapley Avenue Service which was suspended in 2022 is returning. · Confirmation that the Tapley Avenue Service is planned to re-open in the near future. · Assurances that we are developing new services and applying for Regional Integration Fund monies.
