Decision as recorded
AGREED by the Committee, it would recommend to the Executive Member that the Hackney Carriage tariff is increased in accordance with the proposal received and that the statutory consultation process be undertaken.
3.1 The TML&TS presented and briefly read through her report whilst sharing her screen. She responded to Members’ questions and comments as follows:- · There was nothing in the policy that stated that card payments could be made mandatory, but some of the taxi trade already supplied it as a payment option. A request would need to be made by the trade in order for it to be considered but any changes would require a change in policy. · Fluctuations in fuel costs couldn’t be taken into account as they had to work on the current situation. The Hackney Carriage trade could charge a maximum of what was on the taxi meter or less. Electric vehicles couldn’t be a part of the consideration in this case as it was for an increase in tariff; other incentives were offered for electric vehicles. 3.2 The Committee generally commented that the decision was a difficult one to make as it would mean an increase in fares for residents. However, it was recognised that fees had not been increased for four years and with the rising costs of living, plus the increase in fuel costs, it was time for it to be looked at. Should the increase be agreed by the Executive Member, the public would have an opportunity to put forward their concerns or objections during the consultation period. 3.3 The General Licensing Committee considered the request made and the proposal received in relation to the increase of the Hackney Carriage tariff, and as the proposed fee was AGREED by the Committee, it would recommend to the Executive Member that the Hackney Carriage tariff is increased in accordance with the proposal received and that the statutory consultation process be undertaken.
4.1 The date of the meeting was confirmed to take place on Thursday, 24 November 2022. 4.2 The meeting ended at 2.30pm.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
