The Tackling Poverty Service Manager provided a “For Information” report which presented the refreshed Tackling Poverty Strategy (2024-2029). He explained that the process of developing the strategy commenced in August 2023 with a period of engagement and working with individuals and organisations as well as undertaking a public survey, which received over 300 responses. In addition, a Partnership Forum was established for organisations that support poverty in Swansea. Facilities such as the “One Stop Information “ have been utilised in order to liaise with the public. Work had been conducted with the Strategic Equalities and Future Generations Board and the Tackling Poverty Network run by Welsh Government whilst considering the contents of the “Tackling the Child Poverty Strategy” document and the recent Audit Wales reports in order to identify our priorities and vision for poverty in Swansea. The strategy document would now go out for public consultation. Councillors and the public would have further opportunity to contribute to the document via a series of routes prior to approval by Cabinet. The Committee made several comments in relation to options for the public to contribute to the consultation process. The Chair thanked the officer for the update and looked forward to receiving the final Strategy in due course.
The Director of Social Services, Head of Adult Services & Tackling Poverty and Cabinet Member for Care Services provided a report which outlined the proposed model to transform internal Day Services and the next steps of implementation. Resolved that: 1) The proposed new model of Day Opportunities is agreed (six types of Day Opportunity from social and community support, through to centre-based specialist day support), subject to further co-production. 2) It is agreed to progress with the co-production and development to review and remodel internal Day Services.
The Chair presented the Work Plan for 2024-2025. Resolved that the Work Plan be noted.
