Response by the Cabinet Member: Dear Cllr Karl Thank you for your enquiry regarding the Old Market Hall in Llanidloes. I can advise that the blue strap has been in place on the building for several years, it was not installed as part of the recent projects to improve and protect the building. I agree that the strap is not in character with the building; it no longer appears to serve any functional role, and it will be removed when a lifting platform is next available in the area. The recent repairs and structural improvements to the building have amounted to approximately £125,000, an investment crucial to protecting this significant asset for the people of Powys. As you would expect, such works have been undertaken under the watchful eye of an experienced heritage architect. Alongside the main project, the team has diligently completed ongoing repair, maintenance, and compliance tasks, both as part of annual routines and as specific needs have arisen. Unfortunately, since last year’s renovations, the roof has suffered two more incidents of similar damage from vehicle strikes, and once again the team has scheduled additional repairs to be undertaken in the coming weeks. Throughout, officers have kept myself, local Members, the Town Council, and the recently established Old Market Hall Sub-Committee informed. Any requests for access to the building is not within my ‘gift’ and should be submitted to the Town Council.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
