Response by the Cabinet Member: 1. Where can I find evidence that removing sixth form provision from Crickhowell High School will lead to the optimising of resources, a reduction in operational costs, and improved resource allocation? The strategic review of post-16 provision in Powys is exploring future models to ensure the system meets the needs of learners and is financially sustainable. No decisions have been made regarding a preferred model, and the Council is currently engaging with stakeholders to inform the development of an updated options appraisal. This appraisal will be considered by Cabinet in the Spring Term, followed by further public engagement in the Summer Term. At this stage, no individual sixth forms have been identified for closure, and therefore, implications for specific schools have not yet been assessed. 2. How will the removal of Crickhowell High School sixth form result in a reduced duplication of subjects? As above, no decisions have been made regarding the future of individual sixth forms. The review is ongoing, and detailed curriculum analysis will form part of the options appraisal process. 3. Which subjects are duplicated across Brecon, Crickhowell and Gwernyfed High Schools and how many students take each of these subjects in each of these high school sixth forms? The curriculum offer is agreed on an annual basis, so the table below show the duplicated subjects agreed for 2025-26 across the three schools. We do not record pupil numbers until the 8-week mark, which is in line with Medr funding returns. Therefore, we would be able to provide this information from mid-October. Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
