Response by the Cabinet Member: Thank you for your questions Cllr McIntosh regarding the improvements to Brecon Town Centre. Please find below responses to your questions: 1. The first public consultation was held in June 2021under the previous administration. That consultation enabled officers to develop a plan to improve Brecon town centre for local residents, businesses and visitors. A further consultation was held in August/September 2022 to get the public’s views on a range of topics. The feedback received showed that there was strong support for the traffic restriction measures put in place during the Covid pandemic to be made permanent, and widespread agreement that the proposed improvements will add to the town centre’s character and culture, making it more enjoyable for residents and visitors. Officers respond to the comments they received in a fair and transparent way using the appropriate process used in all our consultations. The latest consultation was focused around the detailed design developed following the previous consultations. The consultation was open from 24th February both online and in person at Y Gaer, through to 23rd March (Y Gaer) and 30th March (online). Hard copy survey forms were still being accepted at Y Gaer up to the 30th March. (Both forms of consultation were extended by one week from their original respective deadlines (16th/23rd), as requested by a Brecon Councillor) 2. The authority received 353 responses to the current consultation. (139 online, 201 hard copy and 13 emails.) 3. In line with the funding deadline for the Welsh Government grant, we applied for the funding on the 20th December 2024. This enables the Welsh Government to evaluate grant applications and award funding in time for the following financial year. The funding was accepted from the 1st April 2025. I hope this provides the information you require.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
