LGW gave an update on progress. She advised that an interactive careers platform for young people would be launched shortly and it was agreed that a demonstration would be organised for Board members. She also advised that the RSP was working with Careers Wales on an existing Mid Wales training directory rather than create a separate one. The Chair raised the issue of transport to FE colleges. The RSP recognised that this was an issue for students and LGW advised that they worked with colleges on this. LGW confirmed that there was close contact between the RSP and education services in Ceredigion and Powys. The Board discussed apprenticeships. The Chair asked whether there were opportunities with Bute Energy and it was confirmed that the company was part of the Energy cluster group. Members questioned the lack of uptake of apprenticeships and LGW explained that the RSP would collate data from FE colleges, Careers Wales and providers. The Board felt that there needed to be a broader range of courses available in the FE colleges, with administrative and clerical type jobs important in the region. It was noted that FE colleges were often reluctant to share information on enrolment and completion rates for courses. ACTION – RSP to seek information on enrolment and completion rates for courses and to contact Ann Watkin if there are any issues.
