Response by the Cabinet Member: Thank you for your query. The capacity of the Cradoc site of Ysgol Golwg Pen y Fan is currently calculated as 175, and this was the capacity that was included in the Statutory Notice published during the School Reorganisation Process to merge the school with Mount Street Infant and Mount Street Junior Schools. The capacity of a school is calculated using the WG Guidance – Measuring Capacity of Schools in Wales’. For primary schools, the capacity is calculated on the size of rooms designated as ‘classbases’. Specialist and support rooms such as libraries, IT rooms and staff rooms are not included in the calculation but must all be measured. The spaces in classrooms are then checked against the total usable space available to see if there is too much or too little space available to support the core teaching activities. However, I will request that officers visit the site to assess whether this figure is still the valid capacity calculation as the numbers of pupils on roll that attend the Cradoc site have reduced since the original consultation process which may have impacted on how the school now uses the site. School capacity calculations are not a requirement for insurance purposes. However, pupil numbers on roll are provided for the purposes of school travel insurance for trips.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
