Resolved – The Pension Regulator General Code of Practice Administration update be noted.
The Committee received the report, and the Pension Fund Manager explained that the General Code of Practice was introduced on the 27 March 2024 which required the Pension Team to undertake work to achieve compliance. It was recognised by the Regulator that compliance would not be immediate and required an action plan to track progress, it was hoped that all actions would be completed by the end of the calendar year. A sample report was presented providing detail on the five areas of the code and how each element contained modules to be completed and for evidence to be provided to the Regulator if requested. Not all sections of the new code were required by public service pension schemes, however good practice would be gained by completing all modules. Assurances were given by the Chair of the Pension Board who was pleased with progress and added the Board had undertaken additional deep dives and scrutiny to support the process. The Pension Fund Manager would share example questions and report with the Committee which would be made available to the public once finalised. It was moved and duly seconded to note the report. Resolved – The Pension Regulator General Code of Practice Administration update be noted.

Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
