Response by the Cabinet Member: Firstly, can I apologise for the delay in responding. I would like to take this opportunity to answer each of your questions in turn. Q1) Could the cabinet member please tell me how much revenue the county council receives from the Gravel and Back Lane car parks in Newtown? Table 1 below sets out the revenue received from the Gravel and Back Lane car parks: Table 1 Accounting Year Job Job Name 2019/20 2020/21 2021/22 2022/23 to date HW100063 Back Lane, Newtown £153,096.40 £58,666.53 £135,817.15 £144,579.55 HW100079 Gravel, Newtown £76,640.49 £31,027.25 £74,504.41 £64,435.60 £229,736.89 £89,693.78 £210,321.56 £209,015.15 NB the income for Gravel also includes Gas Street income and they are not monitored separately in the finance system. Q2) Following on from this could the cabinet member please tell me how much this revenue is forecast to increase by following the proposed astronomical increases in short stay parking charges? For the two car parks in question, we estimate annual income to increase by approximately £31k. Q3) Could the cabinet member please advise as to how these forecasts were calculated and confirm if lost revenue from fewer car park users and other related factors were taken into consideration e.g. fewer customers leading to more town centre business closures leading to loss of business rates income? Forecasts were made based on the assumption some short stay users will migrate to other options such as walking/cycling or finding alternative parking. Any assumptions at this stage are only estimates and the actual impact of the charges will be unknown. It is hoped that by not increasing the all day tariff and the up to 4 hours tariff only slightly increasing, then we may encourage people to visit towns for longer.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
