Response by the Cabinet Member: I am pleased that the UK Government has at last accepted the principle that swimming pools require extra financial support. The issue now is how that support transfers to Welsh Government and the details of any support that they offer. I am certain that council leaders from across Wales will be lobbying WG, via the WLGA, to pass on the consequential funding in full to local government to support our swimming pool provision. Of course, we have yet to be advised about the mechanism that might be used to allocate the funding, and we in Powys are in a more difficult position than other local authority areas in that we have more swimming pools pro rata than any other area of Wales, for obvious reasons. I will not be writing to the UK Prime Minister about this issue at this stage in view of the recent Budget Announcement but will be supporting WLGA lobbying.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
