Response by the Cabinet Member: Caerhowel Mews cul-de-sac is a private residential complex located at the end of Caerhowel Meadows with a private access road serving it, this private access is off the end of our adopted highway turning head. Ideally, the developer of the Mews should have erected sufficient signage to avoid this type of confusion when these residential properties were created. With this in mind, the residents of the Mews or better the private owner of the Mews would be expected to pay for the additional sign and not the local highway authority. If the delivery drivers are getting as far as Caerhowel Meadows and then getting confused once they are within the estate because there are no signs for Caerhowel Mews, all that is needed is another sign at the entrance to Caerhowel Mews behind the highway boundary or a nice sign fixed to the end corner of the Caerhowel Mews building itself saying something like “Caerhowel Mews 1 to 10” with perhaps an arrow to show delivery drivers which private access road to take to get to the front doors of these properties. It has come to my notice that the previous Councillor for your Ward also raised these issues with the highways department. Sadly, I cannot add any further information or offer any other way forward on this point. I’m very happy to share previous correspondence on this matter if it helps in any way.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
