Response by the Cabinet Member: Powys County Council is rolling out universal primary free school meals in line with the Welsh Government timeline. As indicated in the press release by Jeremy Miles, the Minister for Education and the Welsh Language, (https://gov.wales/universal-free-school-meals-roll-out-commence-september) “most children in Reception class will start receiving universal primary free school meals from this September”. In Powys it is the case that all children in Reception classes will receive a free meal as of September 2022. The press release further states that “by April 2023, the majority of children in Years 1 and 2 will also start receiving free school meals”. This will be the case for all children in Years 1 and 2 in Powys.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
