Councillor Sterry asked: Leader, at the Council meeting in September, my colleague, Councillor Mark Howells, asked you to review councillors' access to My Newport data to support effective scrutiny and ward casework. In your response, you agreed that councillors should have appropriate access and stated that this would be implemented shortly. It has now been eight months since that commitment was made, yet councillors still do not have access to this information. As you know, I worked with officers during the initial rollout of the My Newport system and previously demonstrated that the data could be extracted and filtered to ward level in a manner that complies with data protection requirements. I also appreciate that officers have advised the process currently involves a significant amount of manual manipulation. However, I have already offered my assistance and am confident that I could develop an Excel macro-based reporting tool in around a day's work. This would automate the process, allowing officers to generate monthly ward-level reports in a matter of minutes, rather than manually manipulating the data each month. Councillor Batrouni responded: This question was also raised by Cllr Evans 2026/27: As part of the ongoing programme to improve data accessibility, transparency and openness, officers have been progressing the development of a ‘Performance Portal’. This has required an update to systems and pulling together of a range of data. Phase 1 will provide an overview of performance in relation to the Councils Corporate Plan. The portal is due to be released to a pilot group for feedback and comment in Q2 this year. Phase 2 is under development and will include data on key service delivery functions. Timeline for delivery is Qtr 4 of 2026/27.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
