Councillor Fouweather asked: There is significant housing developments proposed for the Langstone, Bishton Ward. Can the cabinet member tell me if there will be sufficient primary school places as Langstone primary is already oversubscribed? Can the cabinet member also update me with the current situation regarding Llanmartin Primary which is quite low on numbers. Will this school be used to take the additional number of children that are expected with the new housing developments? Wil the new development at Milton Park have a primary school on site and if not where the primary aged school children expected to go? Councillor Davies responded: I believe that Cllr Fouweather is referring to identified key sites within the Preferred Strategy for the Council’s Replacement Local Development Plan. As far as I am aware, there is an area identified suitable for up to 2,500 homes in the Bishton/Langstone area, plus 2 smaller, but still significant, developments. Outline infrastructure requirements including education provision has been referenced in this document, and if the sites progress to the Deposit Plan, there will be further consultation on the infrastructure requirements. The surplus places at Llanmartin Primary would also be taken into consideration when assessing any need should the site progress under the RLDP. I can also confirm that in terms of the Great Milton Park development, the S106 agreement requires the developer to provide a primary school on site, and there are plans for a new 1.5 form entry primary school in the area.
