There is no summary of this meeting yet. One is written once the council publishes the minutes. The agenda and papers are below.
Councillor Reeks asked: Following the leader’s announcement earlier this year about funding being available for road safety and traffic calming, you asked councillors in August for recommendations of roads that would benefit from enhanced measures. Having put forward a number of areas in Rogerstone North that would benefit from such improvements, there have been no further information/announcements about the initiative. Can the Cabinet member please update myself and colleagues as to the progress of this and whether any roads have been currently earmarked for improvements? Councillor R Howells responded: We requested and received a significant response from Members on areas of concerns within their wards, which I would like to thank them for. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the Leader for making this funding stream available. A particular benefit of this scheme is whereas most road scheme funding is tied to strict third-party funding criteria and so often excludes many worthy road schemes, the Leader and I were keen to ensure with this fund that there could be more flexibility in progressing schemes in areas of concern. This is a big advantage of this scheme. To this end, officers have worked on a prioritisation criteria that allows for wider community benefits to be considered. We are currently finalising the prioritisation of the potential schemes. Once that is complete, we will be able to confirm what schemes will be taken forward and I’m expecting to be able to confirm this within the next week or so.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
