There is no summary of this meeting yet. One is written once the council publishes the minutes. The agenda and papers are below.
Councillor Fouweather asked: Newport’s Labour Council have declared Newport to be a City of Sanctuary. Can the leader tell me how much has been spent by the city council in providing the following. Providing Accommodation. Providing additional educational support. Providing additional benefits and benefit support. How much money has the council received from both the Welsh Gov and the UK Gov to help with or to meet these costs. Councillor Batrouni responded: There has been no NCC expenditure related to City of Sanctuary. City of Sanctuary is a community-based initiative which seeks to welcome and support sanctuary seekers to integrate in the UK. It does not provide accommodation, support, or benefits.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
