There is no summary of this meeting yet. One is written once the council publishes the minutes. The agenda and papers are below.
Councillor Townsend asked: The Cabinet member will be very aware that the former Newport tax office occupies a prominent site overlooking the cenotaph on one of the city’s gateway routes Despite planning permission having been granted for residential use, very little has happened on the site for some time, and a lot of rubbish has accumulated in the car park. Could he Cabinet member confirm whether the Council has engaged with the developer to move forward with the plans? Also, in the interim, could the site be actively tidied up given that it is in a prominent location? Councillor Adan responded: Planning permission has been granted for the reuse of the building and there has been ongoing engagement between officers and the site owners. All parties are keen to see the building put to good use. Whilst I am not able to disclose the specific details at this stage, I can assure you that we are fully committed to supporting efforts to secure a sustainable, long-term future for the site. I note your concerns regarding the upkeep of the site, we will work with the owners to support its responsible management.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
