The Monitoring Officer (MO) provided an update on complaints regarding Community and City Councillors. The Committee noted the update on complaints provided by the MO. The Committee wished to acknowledge the good conduct of members and to express appreciation for officers' support and guidance in proactively preventing escalation.
The Chair introduced the Group Leader Reports and provided a brief summary of the responses. The Committed noted the responses from the Group Leaders and thanked them for their feedback. The Committee noted the similar themes found in the Group Leader Reports on the length of training sessions as well as the requirement for more support and guidance on mental health and wellbeing. The Committee acknowledged the Group Leaders comments on the impact of the demanding, constant and visible nature of the role as a Councillor and supported further promotion and improved signposting of the resources available to Councillors.
The MO introduced the Public Services for Wales (PSOW) Annual Letter from 2024/25. The MO informed the Committee that most Community Council complaints had arisen from one council but noted that improvements had been made, and no further problems were expected. The Committee noted Newport City Council's strong performance compared to other Welsh Local Authorities. The Committee noted the overall increase in complaints to the PSOW. The Committee recognised that easier and more accessible reporting measures were important for the improvement of public services.

Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
Lists the council's current councillors only. Co-opted members, officers and former councillors aren't shown.
