Question to the Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities: 2024/33 - Ellen Ridge Site It is pleasing to see the Ellen Ridge site being brought forward to meet the housing needs of the travelling community of Newport. Could the Cabinet Member confirm what provision the council intend to make for temporary pitches for temporary encampments often for passing travellers. Councillor M Howells asked: Councillor Adan Responded: Newport’s Gypsy Traveller Accommodation Assessment does not identify a need for a “passing through site” in the city. However, the council is working through the Gwent Public Services Board to develop a regional approach. Over the course of the summer the council has also commissioned a pilot project with Gypsy Traveller Wales providing an outreach service to this client group.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
Declarations are read from the minutes once they are published.
