The Chair advised that an electronic petition had been received with 936 signatures, with a further 688 signatures on paper form in relation to the proposed move of Llandudno Library and Tourist Information Centre from its current location on Mostyn Street to Venue Cymru. A further 230 signatures from people outside the County Brough had also been received, but in line with the Council’s Petition Scheme, they were not able to be included. Councillor Harry Saville presented the petition on behalf of residents and requested that the proposed move of Llandudno Library be considered further, and an independent economic impact study be commissioned. In addition, Councillor Saville made reference to the following: • Conwy’s Library Strategy. • Public resistance and how approximately 3 years ago, a proposal to move Colwyn Bay Library to Coed Pella was halted, as a result • The hope that Llandudno would be treated fairly and its library remain in the library building • The need to work with Mostyn Estates, the owner of the current library building • The award of grant funding for the renovation of Venue Cymru was not reliant upon the library forming part of the project In response, Councillor Dilwyn Roberts - Cabinet Member for Culture, Governance and IT thanked Councillor Saville for sharing the views of those who had signed the petition and assured Members that the residents’ views would be considered, prior to any Cabinet decision. A report regarding the project would be presented to democracy shortly and include an update on the responses to the library consultation and provide Members with wider information on cost implications, impact to the town (considering both Mostyn Street and other locations) and sustainability issues for the services that are delivered in Llandudno.
