The Cabinet Member considered a report which proposed that for 2025-26 the Standard Charge for Local Authority Older People residential care homes be increased from £889.94 to £916.64 for mainstream beds and from £1,058.85 to £1,090.62 for dementia beds. For residents placed by this authority into our own Local Authority Homes the effective date for the new rates is 30th June 2025. For those residents placed in our homes by other Local Authorities the effective date for the new charges to those authorities is the 7th of April 2025. The Senior Business Support Manager Social Care presented the report and noted that although there are 248 beds across Carmarthenshire County Council’s residential homes, the charges only apply to 234 of them as the other 14 are Pili Pala beds partly funded by Hywel Dda University Health Board. The charges are increasing by 3% to cover an anticipated 3.5% increase in pay, and other smaller increases, and it was noted that the rates being set are very close to those in the private sector. The Cabinet Member was also advised that the authority was looking to move the date where these charges are updated in future to April to bring it in line with the start of the financial year. RESOLVED that the Standard Charge for Local Authority Older People residential care homes be increased from £889.94 to £916.64 for mainstream beds and from £1,058.85 to £1,090.62 for dementia beds.
Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
