Cardiff Council met on 29 September 2022. Councillors approved setting up an independent advisory committee for the Maindy Park charitable trust, after a Liberal Democrat amendment to pause related projects was lost. They also carried a motion on climate change and the floods in South Asia, and made several appointments, including two Cardiff Bus directors and school governors.
Cabinet met on 28 September 2022 and considered 12 items, covering a children's charity land swap, coastal flood defences, recycling, school places for pupils with additional learning needs, the budget, and taxi fares. Its main decisions included approving a revised coastal defence scheme and the Recycling Strategy 2022-25, expanding several special learning places, and ratifying a rise in hackney carriage fares from 8 October 2022. It also noted a projected council overspend of £7.368 million for the year.
The committee scrutinised three items before Cabinet decides on them: the decision-making process for the Maindy Park Trust, the month 4 budget monitoring report for 2022/23, and the Annual Property Plan 2022/23. Pre-decision scrutiny means members examine a report before Cabinet considers it. On each item the committee agreed that the Chairperson will write to the Cabinet Member with its observations, and it agreed its work programme for 2022/23.
