The Licensing Manager presented a report to recommend Taxi and General Licensing/Registration/Permit Fees for the next financial year for approval by Members. Members were advised that it was subject to paragraph 1.1, the proposed fees for hackney carriage/private hire vehicle and private hire operator licences for 2025/26 be advertised for consultation and if any objections are received be considered at a further meeting of this committee to determine the fees to be charged and the date on which any variations should come into force. The Chair thanked the Licensing Manager and invited Members questions or comments. The Chair commented on the low numbers of the consultation responses from taxi drivers and operators and sought confirmation as to how fee comparisons are made compared to other Local Authorities. The Licensing Manager explained that operations and costs differ between authorities, making direct comparisons difficult. It was noted that only two responses were received this year, which was less than previous years. It was confirmed that there would be further consultation for vehicle and operator fees if the report was approved by the Committee. One Member queried whether the age of the vehicles was considered in the licensing fees. The Licensing Manager clarified that fees were not based on vehicle age, fees are charged per applicant/licence type, vehicle fees are annual, driver badges are three-year, operator fees ranged from one to five years. There were no further questions. The Chair thanked everyone in attendance. Following consideration of the report it was moved and seconded that the recommendations be approved. By way of Microsoft Forms this was agreed unanimously. Councillors must say when they have a personal link to something being discussed, such as a job, a property or a family member. A prejudicial interest is one strong enough that the councillor usually leaves the room and takes no part.
